WHO: All Youth ages K-12 can participate, Teams of 8 students
WHAT: Teams of 8 will compete for the fastest time to collectively solve 25 Rubik's Cubes.
WHEN:
Thursday, October 21* - Preliminary Tournament, National Electronics Museum
Saturday, October 23 - Top Six (6) Finalists at the Grand Final Tournament, Festival Expo on the National Mall - followed by the Awards Ceremony
* Preliminary Event– will be held on Thursday, October 21. However, depending upon the number of teams participating, preliminaries may run over two days beginning Wednesday, October 20.

Cash prizes are to be used by winning organizations to enhance Math and/or Science education efforts. Winning team members will receive trophies and all competitors will receive a free T-shirt. One team per Division. Divisions are determined by the oldest team member on the team. Hence, if you are a K-12 school entering one team only, and the oldest team member is 12th grade and the youngest 1st grade, this team would compete in Division 2. Alternatively, a K-12 school could enter a team in each division.
About You CAN Do the Rubik’s Cube
Everyone’s favorite puzzle is now used in schools and youth organizations across the country to teach General Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra and Geometry. You CAN Do the Rubik’s Cube is a math education program that can be integrated into the school curriculum and/or used as an educational outreach activity through after school clubs, community youth organizations or any environment that encourages learning activities.

The kit includes 12 Rubik’s Cubes, Solution Guides, and an instructional CD with math lessons and activities that have been designed and piloted by teachers and educational consultants for classroom use at varying grade levels. Orientation Workshop for Teachers and Coaches
April 10, 2010 11:00am - 3:00pm
National Electronics Museum
Linthicum Heights, Maryland
Teachers and Coaches are encouraged to attend the orientation workshop on April 10, 2010, 11:00am to 3:00pm (lunch will be provided) at the National Electronics Museum (1745 West Nursery Road, Linthicum Hts, MD 21090-2906) where we will show you how to solve the Rubik’s Cube and you will hear from Teachers and Educators who already use the Rubik’s Cube in their classroom. To sign up for this workshop, simply state so on the tournament registration form below.
The first 30 teachers/coaches who register for the tournament AND attend the teacher/coach orientation workshop on April 10, are eligible to receive a free Math Education Kit valued at $150.

- Sign up and attend our Teacher/Coach Workshop on April 10, 2010 to be eligible to receive a free Math Education Kit.
- Work with your students and get a team together.
- Provide team members names – required by May 31, 2010. We will contact you at a later date for this information.
- Compete at the Preliminary Tournament on October 21, 2010. This will be scheduled in after school/early evening hours. Finalists advance to final Tournament on October 23, 2010 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. during the USA Science & Engineering Festival Expo.
- Competing teams must be available for both the preliminary tournament on October 21 and the finals on October 23 to be held on a stage at the USA Science & Engineering Festival Expo on the National Mall on October 23, 2010.
- Prize money must be used towards math and science education efforts at your organization.
